Magnolia Matters - 2018 Fall/Winter
The crash rocked Segner’s vehicle, causing the car to turn clockwise and the airbags to deploy. Shocked and shaken from the wreck, Segner remained motionless as she tried to decipher what had just happened. Out of nowhere, a young man approached her vehicle to check on her. The young man, Will Gunn, a Registered Nurse at Magnolia Regional Health Center, had driven up on the wreck scene and proceeded to check on her condition. ‘Very Nicely Dressed’ “I noticed that he was very nicely dressed and wondered where he was heading to,” said Segner. “I later found out that he was actually heading to his wedding rehearsal when he stopped to help me.” “My wife and I were getting married the next day, and I was headed to our rehearsal dinner,” said Gunn. “I just knew I needed to help her, not really thinking about where I was heading to. I called my wife to let her know.” Segner was in tremendous pain, and her neck and head were almost completely immobile. Although Gunn had loved ones waiting for him, he didn’t leave her side and continually assured her that help was on the way. Talking to Segner and helping to keep her still and calm, Gunn helped put the collar on Segner’s neck when the ambulance arrived. “In that moment, all I was concerned about was Ms. Segner’s well-being,” said Gunn. “Being a nurse, I knew that my priority, even with somewhere I needed to be, was to take care of the patient to the best of my ability. That’s exactly what I did.” Pictured areWill, with wife Emma Kate, also a nurse at MRHC, on their wedding day. 2018 FALL/WINTER 14
