Magnolia Matters - 2018 Fall/Winter

Stabilized with Collar Upon arrival, the EMS team took over working on Segner and placed a collar on her neck to stabilize her. She was transported to the Emergency Department at MRHC, where she was introduced to Japheth Baker, DO, immediately on arrival. Dr. Baker, an emergency medicine physician at MRHC, began diagnosing and treating Segner. “The care Dr. Baker and his team provided me was phenomenal,” said Segner. “They kept me in the loop on what was going on the entire time and were very transparent about the options I had. The team really went above and beyond while comforting me and my family.” After a CT scan, a diagnostic medical test that produces multiple images of the inside of the body, Segner knew what her options were. She had suffered three fractures and a slight dissection (tear of the inner lining) in an artery in her neck. Dr. Baker informed Segner that her neck was broken and that she’d need to be taken to Memphis for the level of trauma care that she needed for her injury. CareFlight loaded Segner into a helicopter to prepare her for her flight to Memphis. Segner recalled that the in-flight medical team continued to make sure that she was not having any pain and said they would stay with her and care for her until she was in the hands of the team at the facility in Memphis. ‘I’m Blessed’ Segner said, “I’m blessed that I was taken to Magnolia. The care I received throughout the entire process was excellent and genuine.” Segner added, “They were truly concerned about how I was doing and offered me the highest quality care. I can give them nothing but praise!” Since her injury, Segner is now back to living her best life. She enjoys spending time with her kids and grandkids and knows that things might have turned out differently if Gunn had not been the one to stop at the scene. I’M BLESSED THAT I WAS TAKEN TO MAGNOLIA. THE CARE I RECEIVED THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PROCESS WAS EXCELLENT AND GENUINE. — Patricia Segner Patricia Segner, at bottom left, and her family are grateful for the care she received at MRHC. www.MRHC.org MAGNOLIA MATTERS 15
