Magnolia Matters - 2018 Fall/Winter
For more information regarding the Magnolia Diabetes Center (inside Magnolia Specialty Clinic), please call 662.665.8041 or visit MRHC.org/DiabetesCenter According to the most recent statistics provided by the American Diabetes Association, diabetes remains the seventh- leading cause of death in the United States, whether it be the primary cause or an underlying one. On average, Mississippi ranks first and Tennessee sixth in the highest rates of diabetes prevalence. With diabetes comes a variety of potential complications, including heart disease and stroke, high blood pressure, kidney disease, vision issues, slow-healing wounds, and limb amputations. Often, the disease runs so rampant because people do not know what the warning signs are or how to manage the disease after they have been diagnosed. MRHC has made it a mission to make an impact as far as diabetes prevention, treatment and education go. The Magnolia Diabetes Center offers an array of services to help patients manage the disease and the complications that accompany it. Delali O. Blavo, DO, MBA, MPH, Endocrinologist, and Carmen Parks, FNP-BC, Certified Diabetes Educator, work together to ensure their patients receive the knowledge, and disease tracking they need, while keeping the best treatment options in mind for each individual person. In conjunction with the clinic, MRHC is also able to offer extended services to help in the fight against the disease, such as those at the Wound and Hyperbaric Center of Excellence, which focuses on treating patients with chronic nonhealing wounds resulting from the complications of diabetes or other causes. MRHC also offers nutritional services to help with meal planning and diet choices. A poor diet is often a common factor in those who suffer from the disease. Diabetes Care Delali O.
