Magnolia Matters - 2018 Fall/Winter
In June of 2017, Palmer suffered many injuries after surviving a head-on collision while traveling through Texas. He suffered fractures of his left elbow, left hip, and right leg. Fifteen days following the wreck, after receiving his initial care in Texas, it was time to come home. Magnolia Home Health and Hospice began seeing him the same week that he returned home. Since he was bedbound and couldn't bear his own weight, he had to have occupational therapists, registered nurses, and physical therapists come to his house daily. Meghan McGhee, an MRHC Occupational Therapist, said, “When we saw him at home, he wasn’t able to put any weight on his legs.” McGhee had to reteach Palmer how to do everyday tasks that we often take for granted. Even simple things such as buttoning a shirt were daunting because of the limited mobility in his arm and hand. Getting emotional, Palmer said tearfully, “They brought me through a lot of stuff.” Palmer had to learn to get out of bed, reach around his back, and even touch his nose. He was determined to get better and even admits to giving McGhee a couple of scares because of his determination to be mobile and self-sufficient. “During my time with Mr. Palmer as his home health RN, I saw nothing short of sheer determination and the desire to persevere above all the odds that were set against him from his injuries,” said Karen NOW HEALING Once Hurt, Traveling across the country may sound like a big feat for some, but for Brent Palmer, a Corinth resident of 40 years, it is just another day. He owns Palmer Handrail & CustomMillwork, transporting products all over America to install in nursing and retirement homes. All was smooth until his accident. EVEN ON HIS NOT SO GOOD DAYS, HE ALWAYS HAD A SMILE ON HIS FACE. HE TRULY IS A MIRACLE. — Karen Patrick, Registered Nurse 2018 FALL/WINTER 4
