I FELT GREAT AFTER THE SURGERY, AND I COULD BREATHE FREELY WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. — Ashley Shirley Living most of her life with major sinus issues, Shirley had tried almost everything available. Nasal sprays, antihistamines, and decongestants were all attempted, but failed to get the job done. Currently living in Jackson, Tenn., with her husband and 7-month-old daughter, Shirley enjoys doing what most people do. She loves spending time with her family, doing her job, and going out to eat when she has the chance. All of this sounds enjoyable, right? It is, but it becomes a hassle when you are dealing with constant sinus issues. “I’ve had sinus problems my entire life,” said Shirley. “Nothing has ever helped relieve my pressure, so I am always stopped up. It really gets irritating when you are trying to spend your time doing the things you love doing.” Just when Shirley thought all hope of any relief was lost, her job introduced her to the solution she was looking for. Part of Shirley’s job as a receptionist for Mid-South Retina Associates in Jackson is to travel with the team to Corinth every Tuesday and treat patients, sharing an office with Dr. Michael Peery, Otolaryngologist at Corinth Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic. One day Shirley asked Dr. Peery to check her sinuses for blockages, and he determined that she had polyps in her nasal cavity. Dr. Peery suggested an endoscopic sinus surgery called Balloon Sinuplasty (BSP). The procedure is a safe and effective sinus procedure for chronic sinusitis patients seeking relief from uncomfortable sinus pain symptoms. With Balloon Sinuplasty, Dr. Peery is able to open up the inflamed sinuses by using a small, flexible balloon catheter. This allows the blocked sinus passageways to open up and drain the fluids that have been building up over time. When the balloon is inflated, it widens the walls of the sinus, allowing the sinus drainage to flow more freely. “I felt great after the surgery, and I could breathe freely with no problems at all,” said Shirley. “My entire experience was awesome, and having sinus relief was truly the best feeling in the world.” Shirley added, “I thank God for Dr. Peery’s surgical suggestion and that I can finally sleep at night again.” To learn more about Balloon Sinuplasty, or to explore treatment options for sinus issues you are experiencing, please call Corinth ENT at 662.293.1565. www.MRHC.org MAGNOLIA MATTERS 5
