For more information regarding the Garrett Eye Clinic, PLLC, please call 662.212.9001 In Her Own Words Dr. Jennifer Garrett, a local Ophthalmologist in Corinth, MS, believes in living a healthy lifestyle with exercise and careful diet planning. She has completed two marathons in her adult years, one in New Orleans and one in New York City. Although she was blessed with a slender build in her youth, she has faced the struggles of so many other women who try to remain healthy during the childbearing years and after. In medical school and later residency, she learned how lack of exercise and poor diet can put one at risk for serious health issues such as high blood pressure and diabetes. “I’ve had to drastically change the way I eat as well as what I feed my family.” said Dr. Garrett. In recent years, she has become addicted to Spin indoor cycling. She received a Peloton bike over two years ago and has completed almost 450 online cycling classes. She has enjoyed it so much that last year, while on vacation, she went to the studio where they film the online classes and participated in a “live” ride. Her husband, Brett, was diagnosed with diabetes shortly after they were married in 1997. He is also committed to regular exercise and making good choices for meal planning. “It really hit home when my husband was diagnosed with diabetes. Throughout my training, I saw the permanent effects of poorly controlled blood sugar as well as unmanaged high blood pressure. Most people don’t realize that these two very serious medical conditions can cause blindness in addition to other serious health problems.” Jennifer H. Garrett, MD MAGNOLIA MATTERS 7 www.MRHC.org
